what's up saucy readers! this biweekly period I experimented with creating a book cover inspired by one of the books I read. I'd like to get better at graphic design. but first, the books I read:
how much of these hills is gold by c pam zhang — novel. two orphaned chinese siblings wander around a mining town during the gold rush + try to survive. felt kinda like walking in circles for 400 pages
everything is beautiful, and I'm not afraid by Yao Xiao — comics. collection of individual comics from social media. yeah I feel kinda empowered after looking at my cute and beautiful images.
the coming insurrection by the invisible committee — essays. an french anarchist critique of leftist politics + solutions. was gonna get kept up all night thinking about the critiques but then I was like, whaaaaa? about the solutions
the love hypothesis by ali hazelwood — novel. phd student falls in love with prickly adam-driver inspired professor. I see why u freaks are into this!! but not for me!!
the waste land and other poems by t. s. eliot — poetry. well I finally am seeing what the deal is with this guy. he straight up writes whatever letters he wants and then is like whats not clicking. when I stopped reading the explanations for stuff I liked it a lot more.
the courage to be disliked by fumitake koga and ichiro kishimi — nonfiction, psychology. spent like 80% of the book being annoyed at the youth for asking bad faith questions and not asking the questions I wanted to know the answer to. mind ur business!!
becoming wise by krista tippett — nonfiction. collection of krista's conversations from her podcast, on being with krista tippett. lovely kind hopeful thing to end these two weeks on!
cover redesign: becoming wise by krista tippett
here’s a side by side - i’ve been thinking i want to play around more with design but was puzzling with how to do that. was thinking i might do a book cover redesign of one of the books i enjoyed every couple weeks. i really love the original book cover for becoming wise…so gorgeously simple. we’ll see how it goes!
anyway, that’s all for now. byeeeee <3
